How does this TV drama sequence employ the following technical areas in order to establish representations?

Camera Angle
The very first opening shot is a slow pan following the characters movement, just as the human eye would also do. The way the camera follows the character engages the audiences attention as to what the character is trying to follow. There is a sudden close-up shot of Rinettes face but also a distorted image of a character in the back, this camera angle is from perspective of the Doctor as he tries to understand what is happening in the girls mind. It is also an establishing shot that shows what the Doctor is looking at at that level. The clip makes use of a lot of establishing shots, this not only gives the audienve visual on what is happening but it also the layout hints the different eras they are in at the time. The audience are able to view the story from two different times.
Mis en Scene
The arrangement of the characters in the show is there forn a specific reason. The character of the person with the mask placed behind the girl depicts the ‘creepy’ nature of the character. The costume of the alien character portrays a different era the doctor is in at that very moment, as the doctor travels through time. It also has connotations of the character ‘Captain Hook’ from Peter Pan. The attire on the character Rinette is also similar to the character ‘Wendy’ from the same film. The costume alone showing mis en scene from different eras and characters from other films. The arrangement in the composition such as the turning wall, mirrors the character of the doctor as it revolves and travels around. The doctor also travels through time into other eras, this can be seen as he travels back around to check on the character Rinette. Again we see a completely different era with the new costume on Rinette as she has now grown into an adult. The setting also shows the different eras and worlds. For example the wood walls and fire place seen in the first composition set a different tone for atmosphere, it is seen as calm and comfortable, whereas behind the wall is more of an office consumed with new technology, this again is another aspect into the Doctors world. The camera shot that shows the fire place and wood walls goes against the setting of the second composition because it is from two different worlds or eras.

Editing

Order of the shots are in a sequence which is easy for the audience to engage with. This also keeps continuity as it helps the viewer make sense of the storyline by the smooth flow from shot to shot. In doing this it creates a sense of realism, The majority of the shots are focused around the Doctor and his perspectives on the environment around him. There are quite a few transitions seen in the clip, when going from one side of the wall to the other as it is quick and is a wide shot showing the smooth changes between them.
Sound
There is use of both digetic and non-digetic sound in the clip. At the very beginning the use of non digetic sound becomes more evident as the scene progresses as the camera goes onto a close-up of the girls face, the other character is seen in the background. This is when the non-digetic sound suddenly comes in causing the audience to feel a sense of shock to the character behind the girl. This creates suspense for the viewers to the outworkings of that particular character.
Representation is seen in all four of these aspects from the clip. Certain areas represent time eras and the differences between them or characters perpectives just from the camera angles, representing a characters point of view.
